Make your own liver powder with no special equipment! How to make liver powder for DIY liver powder supplements or to add liver powder to your seasoning blends.

Y’all know how much I like adding liver powder to just about anything. I thought that it was high time that I showed you how to make liver powder. This is the method that I use for my DIY liver powder for capsules or seasoning blends.
I have known that for my health issues grass fed beef liver is one of the best super foods for me to eat for a long time. However, I happen to still be learning to like the taste, small and texture of beef liver. So what’s a girl to do? Then I learned that I could take liver powder capsule, perfect!
Then I realized that though I was getting the liver into my system, and I really noticed a difference when I took the capsules, it wasn’t helping me get used to the taste. So I decided to try incorporating it into my homemade seasoning blends (taco seasoning and seasoned salt). This helps with me getting used to the taste. And also gets it into each member of my family not just for myself.
Where To Find Good Quality Liver
The most important thing to remember is that you want liver from the healthiest cows possible. I recommend getting your liver from a local farmer who raises their cows on grass.
If you are someone who already buys their beef by the whole or half than there is a good chance you have liver lurking in your freezer. If you don’t than check with your local farmers to see if they sell their liver. Frequently it is pretty cheap because there is not much of a demand for it.
I am very blessed that my parents raise beef cows and I can get my liver free in exchange for processing it for them. It works great for both of us. I love having high quality liver available and my folks like not having to process it themselves. If you have friends that get their beef by whole or half check to see if they are using their liver, you might be able to score some for free.
How To Make Liver Powder
Step 1. Thaw Your Liver

Most likely your liver will be frozen unless you are butchering your own animal. Thaw it out in a bowl in your refrigerator.
Step 2. Rinse Your Liver and Slice It

We want to get as much of the blood out of the liver as possible. Place the liver in a colander and rinse it until the water runs clear. Depending on how your liver was processed it will be either whole (its really big) or sliced for you. Either way, you want to slice it into strips as these will dehydrate quicker.
Step 3. Place Slice Liver on a Parchment Paper Lined Baking Sheet

Once you have it sliced place the slices on a piece of parchment paper and place it on a baking sheet. Place the baking sheet in the oven at the lowest setting. Usually this is 170. If your oven has a fan, turn it on.
Step 4. Dehydrate The Liver for 6ish Hours

Check your liver after a few hours and flip it over. Let it dehydrate for a few more hours. Feel them and if they feel dry pull out of the oven and let them cool.
Step 5. Crumble The Dehydrated Liver

Break up the liver slices into small pieces and pulse in your blender until it is crumbly. Warning this can be quite loud. Once you have reached the crumbly stage, place back on the baking sheet and back into the oven.
Step 6. Dehydrate Liver
Dehydrate liver for another few hours. Pull out of the oven and let cool.
Step 7. Powder Your Liver

Once your liver crumbles have cooled, place them in the blender again and blend until a smooth powder.
Step 8. Sift Your Liver Powder

If you want to be able to fill capsules or make a smooth seasoning blend, you will need to sift your liver powder. Let your liver powder settle before opening the blender or you will have liver powder in the air and your lungs. I just use a fine metal strainer to sift it and re-blend the large chunks of liver. After I have re-blended the liver, I use the remaining chunky bits to add to soups for added flavor or just feed it to the dog.
Step 9. Store Your Liver Powder Correctly

Once you have your live powdered and sifted either make your own liver capsules, seasoning blends or store in an air-tight glass jar for future use. If you have an extra desiccant packet place it in your jar to help absorb any moisture in there.

I use the capsule machine from Azure Standard Capsule Machine or before that I loaded them by hand but that takes awhile.
