Best Free Girls Dress Sewing Patterns

I love sewing modest, cute dresses for my four girls and I love free patterns. Here are my three favorite girls dress sewing patterns, one is for knit fabric and two are for woven fabric.

Life Sew Savory – Sweet Rose Dress

This pattern from is my absolute favorite for girls dresses. I have sewn it somewhere around 20 times and loved it each time. This is a classic, modest old-fashioned girls dress pattern for woven fabric. It has an empire waist, buttons in the back and multiple sizes.

Now because I can’t seem to follow a pattern without changing it, here are the changes I sometimes make to it. I frequently add a half circle skirt (download your free half circle skirt pattern here) to it instead of the gathered skirt that is recommended. I also line the bodice with the main fabric instead of using the interfacings I like the look much better and then I can make sure that the fabric is not see through.

Scattered Thoughts of a Craft Mom – Free Peasant Dress Pattern

I have made several of these and I kind of want to make a bunch for my girls for this summer and only have those available to them. I probably won’t do it but the minimalist in me really likes the idea.

This pattern is perfect for quilting fabric but just about any woven fabric will work for it. I have also tried shirring the neckline and sleeves and have like how it turns out.

One of my favorite things about this dress pattern is that the girls can put in on by themselves. You can do long or short sleeves and as a shirt, tunic or dress. This will grow with your child for a while.

It’s Always Autumn – The play-all-day dress

I have made 3 dresses with this pattern but plan to make more in the future. This pattern is more casual in nature and better suited for play dresses. But they sew up fast and are a perfect, cute casual dress that can be sewn up in less than 90 minutes.
