A healthy ranch recipe, is that even possible? Yes it is! My husband have a few agreements in our marriage and one of them is that if I expect him to eat salad that there should be ranch dressing on the table. However due to the cost and ingredients list on commercial ranch I realized that I needed to learn to make my own.
Did you know that many salad dressings at the store have ingredients such as propylene glycol (anti-freeze), MSG and corn syrup in them? Yeah not exactly what I want my family eating.
I have been making my own salad dressings since I was about 10 year-old. But our family did not eat ranch so I was at a lose of how to make it. Google to the rescue! I searched online and found many recipes. The first few I tried were complete flops, then I came across this recipe.
I can’t find the original anymore and I have made some adaptations to it over the last five years so here it is I hope you will enjoy it as much as we do.

What Makes This A Healthy Ranch Recipe?
One of the reasons this is a healthy ranch recipe is the lack of preservatives and highly processed ingredients found in commercial ranch dressings. The other reason this is healthy is the fact that it is a probiotic ranch recipe.
Wait this is a probiotic ranch dressing? Yup you now have a way to get more probiotics into your family in a way that they will want to eat. Both the cultured buttermilk and the cultured sour cream have probiotics in them.
I try to get a three servings (of at least a TBS) of probiotic foods in my family each day (though most days I don’t reach the goal). This healthy ranch recipe can count for one (or even two if they have seconds) and in some yogurt or kefir and sauerkraut and call it a day.
How To Make Cultured Buttermilk and Sour Cream
I have all of the steps listed in this blog post. It is really, really simple to make. Once you have your cultured buttermilk made you can make your own sour cream (it is soo good!).
What If I Can’t Make My Own Buttermilk and Sour Cream?
Just use a good store bought product. For sour cream I like the Daisy brand because it does not have a bunch of additives in it. Aldi’s sour cream has a lot of unnecessary ingredients in it. I just get the cultured buttermilk that is available when I don’t have my own.

Why Do You Use Store Bought Mayo in This Recipe?
I stink at making my own mayo! This is one of the homestead staples that I just can’t seem to get right. So until I do I just use store bought and try not to think about the ingredients in it. If you can make homemade mayo and have it turn out, great use it!
How Long Does This Healthy Ranch Recipe Last In The Refrigerator?
It lasts for up to two weeks in the fridge. As with anything homemade always check with your eyes and smell before you use it, it’s just common sense.
