What is water glassing?
Water glassing eggs is also known as Liming eggs is a method of egg preservation that uses picking lime to preserve eggs for up to 18 months in a fresh state.
What is the Ratio?
The important thing to know is that the ratio of picking lime to water is one ounce of pickling lime to one quart of untreated water.

What water can I use to water glass eggs?
You can use distilled water or well water that has not been through a water softener. If you are using municipal water you can leave it out for 24 hours uncovered to let any chlorine evaporate out.
Is it expensive?
No, pickling lime is really cheap at the store and you only need one ounce per quart of water.

What eggs can I use?
You need to use fresh eggs that have not been refrigerated or washed. The eggs need to be clean, using lots of bedding in the chicken coop helps with this. Ideally collected and water glassed within 2-3 days. This helps them to last the longest.
What can I use water glassed eggs for/in?
You can use water glassed eggs just like any other fresh eggs. I have used them fried and in baked goods. Because they are still fresh they will keep aging, just very slowly. Over time the egg whites will get watery as do all eggs as they age.

How do I use them?
Simply get eggs out of the lime water solution and rinse them off in water. Then use as desired. Once you have gotten into a jar or bucket of eggs try to use them up quickly. Once they are disturbed the eggs will start aging quickly.
