Super Cute easy to make vintage style baby bonnet crochet pattern that can be made in an afternoon for your baby or a friends.
With my fourth baby due any day as I make this post I am currently in nesting mode and trying to finish all of the baby projects I want to make for this little one. We don’t know if this little one is a boy or girl so I am making projects in gender neutral colors. I love vintage style and this quick crochet baby bonnet pattern fits exactly what I am looking for.
What type of yarn should I use?
You can use any worsted weight, soft yarn that you like though I recommend using—-. Remember this will be on your baby’s face so if your baby reacts to acrlic yarn than use a natural yarn such as cotton or wool or vice versa if your baby reacts to wool try using an acrylic yarn.
How Long does it take to make?
I can whip one of these out in an afternoon easily if I don’t have a lot of distractions but depending how fast you crochet and how many times you get interrupted to get someone a snack or a drink it might take a weekend working on it as you have time. Because it works up so fast it makes a great baby shower gift.
What size is this?
0-3 months is the official size but due to the design of the bonnet it can be worn for a lot longer for most babies it will just cover less of their checks as they grow. If you want this to grow with your baby you can make the strings a little longer to help with this.

Tips and Tricks:
- Watch your tension, we want this project to have some stretch to it but still have structure so you are going for a medium tension.
- Use a yarn that feel great in your hands! If it doesn’t feel great in your hands than it won’t feel great on their face.
- Pick a color that goes well with a lot of their outfits or that matches a special outfit for photos.
Can I add a ruffle to this?
Yes in the last row which becomes the brim you can add your favorite type of ruffle or lace to make it a more feminine bonnet.
